ABOUT

As part of New York City’s Living Libraries program, Settlement Housing Fund (SHF) and Kalel Companies will transform the Grand Concourse Library into The Heartwood - a vibrant new community hub that pairs a state of the art public library with approximately 113 permanently affordable, rent-stabilized homes above.

In addition to delivering much-needed affordable housing, The Heartwood will feature a new 17,500 SF library designed to serve children, teens, and families. With a double-height adult reading room, modern technology, and a range of multipurpose meeting and study areas, the new library will be a lasting civic asset in the West Bronx for generations to come.
